And we have the opportunity to do something glorious with it in our lives - just as Paul has done! His very statement tells us so! This brings me comfort knowing that God expected us to struggle with anxiety and fear. It is so important to have people to download with during this time! If you don’t have people….find them! Friends, relatives, and neighbors all need people. We text and talk almost daily and find laughter in the silly and often stupid memes, a reworded cover song, talking gifs etc.In the middle of our funny anecdotes we also text and talk about our anxiety and our fears. My “people” help me navigate the heaviness of my emotions during anxious times. Over several years of trying to get a grip on this, I begged God to help me understand why I struggled so heavily with this… Over time, God has revealed the following helpful responses to me. How can we respond to our feelings of anxiety and walk confidently aligned with this verse seared in our minds and hearts? What are we all asking for? A PEACE That SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING…. People are searching for helpful tips and tricks to reclaim sleep. With the pandemic, economic uncertainty, and horrific headlines, anxiety has once again resurfaced for many of my friends, my clients and family. However, what was once a terrifying monster that controlled my thoughts and emotions is now more of a distraction- an annoying gnat. In fact, with all of our current uncertainty due to Coronavirus, it has reared its ugly head a few times. No matter how I tried to fight it off, it would wash over me and leave me powerless in its wake. Anxiety was an ugly three headed monster that I could not escape from. I once told a dear friend, “I understand the ANXIETY that surpasses all understanding….surpassing peace is harder to feel or even understand.” My anxiety used to be crippling- panic attacks, sleepless nights, a mind run amuck with worse case scenarios of harm or danger to my family and children. And the peace that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”ĭo not be anxious about anything? Tell your requests to God with thanksgiving? The Lord is near? Peace that surpasses ALL understanding? In the height of my anxiety, these words felt hollow and fruitless. Instead, in every situation with prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. It is a lasting inner peace.“The Lord is Near! Do not be anxious about anything. But Jesus’ peace does not depend on external factors. The world can give a measure of peace through relationships, wealth, fame, or position. Furthermore, the peace that Jesus gave them is different from any peace that the world b may give. ( Matthew 10:12, 13) Yet, Jesus did not just wish his apostles peace he gave them peace. When Jesus was on earth, people customarily wished one another peace as a part of their greeting. ( John 14:25-27) Jesus’ followers could face challenging situations with courage, knowing that they had Jehovah’s approval and support.- Hebrews 13:6. ( John 14:1) Even though Jesus would no longer physically be with them, he promised that God’s holy spirit would help them to have confidence and inner peace. ( John 14:23 15:9, 10 Romans 5:1) This peace, based on their faith in Jesus as God’s Son, served to calm their fears and concerns. Jesus gave his apostles peace by assuring them that both he and his Father loved them and approved of them. ( Luke 23:27, 28, 32-34 1 Peter 2:23) He experienced an inner calm because he knew that he had the love and approval of his Father, Jehovah. ( John 15:20 16:33) Although Jesus experienced unjust treatment that would end in his execution, he had peace of mind and heart. This peace was not the absence of conflict or tribulation. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven. ![]() 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit. ![]() 21 Again Jesus said, Peace be with you As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. Do you have a challenging relationship in your life Consider praying these 10. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. What kind of peace did Jesus leave, or give, his apostles? Jesus gave them his peace, that is, the same peace that he experienced. Jesus gives us the peace no one can take away. Like him, they could maintain inner peace, with God’s help. With these words, Jesus warmly reassured his apostles that they did not have to be overly worried when they faced adversity.
